Scientific researchers of the laboratory of Molecular genetics

A scientific program is being implemented in the laboratory aimed at developing technology for producing recombinant proteins, monoclonal antibodies, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) and PCR diagnostic kits, as well as studying biological activity of natural and synthetic substances in order to create new drugs.

For the first time, based on baculovirus technology, a recombinant HBsAg, an immunological marker of hepatitis B virus, containing 3 antigenic determinants of HBV, was obtained to create an ELISA diagnosticum and later on as the basis for the vaccine in the laboratory. In addition, recombinant erythropoietin, β-galactosidase and GFP protein were obtained.

New strains of wild-type yeast S. cerevisiae and P. pastoris have been identified that are suitable for molecular cloning to produce recombinant proteins in the industrial scale.

The technology of work with transfer DNA vectors has been mastered. Transfer vectors with MIS gene expression cassettes (Muller inhibitory substance, a protein for the treatment of breast cancer, ovarian cancer and prostate cancer) were designed.

The technology for obtaining hybridomas producing monoclonal antibodies to recombinant proteins has been established.

The laboratory has a collection of 20 cell culture lines, including HeLa (cervical carcinoma), HBL-100 (breast adenocarcinoma), HEp-2 (laryngeal adenocarcinoma), CCRF-CEM (T-lymphoblastic leukemia), KML (mouse melanoma), Ag-X8.653 (myeloma), as well as insect cell lines for controlling agricultural pests, in particular for controlling the cotton scoop (Helicoverpa armigera).

A technology has been developed for screening biologically active substances and insecticides in order to identify potential sources of anticancer, antiviral and antifungal compounds.

Under the leadership of Sh.S. Azimova as a part of the implementation of the State Investment Project (PKM No. 07 / 1-1181 of January 21, 2009), developed and introduced into serial production ELISA test systems for various infections (HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and C), not inferior in quality to the best foreign analogues.

Actively developing international cooperation with scientific organizations.  3 international grants were implemented in 2005-2008 (STCU 3086, CRDF-UZB1-20433-05, CRDF BII 20553).

4 fundamental projects (4F-416, FA-F3-T041, FA-F6-T198, VA-FA-F-6-009), 9 applied (A-6-287, A-10-144, FA-A11-T140, FA-A6-T202, FA-A10-T204, KA-6-004, KA-6-005, PZ20170928440, PZ-20170926277) and 5 innovative (3I-10-09, I-2015- 6-15, I6-FA-0-15508, 6-FK-0-23729, I6-FA-T 10) were performed in the period of 2005-2017 years.

The works of laboratory staff are presented at many international symposia and conferences and published in various international and domestic journals, such as Plant Molecular Biology, Journal of Virological Methods, Cytotechnology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Infection, Immunity and Pharmacology, Uzbek Biological Journal, Chemistry of Natural Compounds , Uzbekistan Journal of Medicine, Journal of Theoretical and Clinical Medicine, J. Farmacy and Pharmacology, Uzbekistan Pharmaceutical Journal, Phytopharmacology, Asian Journal of Traditional Medicines, memory book cad A. Sadykova “Development of bioorganic chemistry in Uzbekistan”, Int. Journal of current microbiology and applied sciences. ISSN

 In addition, for the first time, under the editorship of Professor S. Asimova, Sh. published unprecedented reference books in the world - encyclopedias in English (10 volumes) in Springer, the international publishing house Springer (New York - Heidelberg - Dordrecht - London):

NATURAL COMPOUNDS (8 volumes), which presents the structures of more than 7500 alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, terpenoids, cycloartans, ecdysteroids and their pharmacological and biological properties;

LIPIDS, LIPOPHILIC COMPONENTS AND ESSENTIAL OILS FROM PLANT SOURCES (2 volumes), containing data on the composition and quantitative content of lipids and essential oils in more than 3,000 plants.
